Deep.
Deep, because I used to be a really big Wayne fan and at some point decided that I couldn't keep up anymore. It gets like that with artists that I witness come up- two of the more prominent one's being from his own camp, Drake and Nicki. I always feel that at some point after achieving such a huge level of success- not to sound "hipster"- but they get so mainstream that the hype doesn't merit the product. That happened to Wayne. And he got so big and so lost in the popularity that I couldn't see him anymore, so I gave up trying. However, I still maintained the position that he had his moments of being one of the best in this music shit. So to read THIS and have the reality of it laid out so blatantly: this man has been through a bunch of shit as of late, yet leaves it outside of the booth and instead puts on his mask found at the bottom of a styrofoam cup and pill bottle- it stings. Because you're exactly right. Reality bites.

Wow. That is a beautiful piece of writing. That is so true. I myself am fourteen and I love Hip-Hop and rap. Some of my favorite rappers are Jay Z, Diggy Simmons, and B.I.G. I like Lil Wayne's beats, there fun to jamn out to, but the words almost seem like little nothings just coming out of his mouth.I totally agree. There is clearly some trouble in his life, and he should defiantly rap about that. I know that a lot of guys my age like him. The thing is, maybe he also doesn't want to change his style and what he raps about because his fan crowd and the type of people that enjoy listening to him will change, and his crowd right now loves the pop and all the mainstream stuff, and maybe he doesn't want to lose that.

Thiz,

This is a beautifully crafted piece. Though I'm not a huge fan of Wayne, I appreciate rap music as a whole. It goes without saying, I have not, nor will purchase his later offering. I'm just curious if the dreadful leopard jeggings he wore during his performance at this year's VMA's is any indication of a declining mental stability, thus affecting the outcome of his endeavors.

Great analysis. It's nice to know that rappers can get subtextual about subjects other than hoes and the delights of their wealth.

Excellent piece, beautifully written.

Hearing the first three leaks from Take Care, really highlights how mediocre of an album Thank Me Later was. I was worried that Drake would never be able to match So Far Gone, but maybe TML is the anomaly, a result of rushed laziness. Real excited for Take Care.

Great blog though, love to see you writing more often.
